Well...I hate these kind of things, because I can never think of anything interesting to say, and it's kind of depressing that the first thing that springs to mind when I think, "Who am I?" is "Married mother of two..." Not that I'm unhappy about being married, or a mother of two, but it's not as exciting as saying, "I'm a real life Indiana Jones and I've discovered the secret of immortality." Although to be honest, immortality sounds like it would get a bit dull after a while...
Anyway, I grew up in a fairly large town in the Midlands of England, in a typically dysfunctional family until I escaped and went to university in Glasgow. My main reason for going there was the fact that it was 300 miles away from my family, but I also wanted to study Archaeology and Celtic Civilisation, which I did. Actually, I originally went to study Celtic languages, but seeing as I'm terrible at languages I bottled it and swapped it for Celtic Civ instead. During my time there, I developed a lifelong love and fascination with all things Scottish, and have only a small regret that I didn't take the chance to learn languages while it was being handed to me on a plate.
I've married into an equally dysfunctional family and about two years ago I moved back to Scotland for work. We've been living on the west coast of Scotland for over a year now, and while I don't get around the place as much as I'd like to, I like taking photos when I do. It would help if I knew how the damn camera worked so I could take proper good ones, though...
I'm a Scottish Reconstructionist, Gaelic Polytheist, call it what you will, which means I try to reconstruct the pre-Christian religious practices of Scotland and bring them into a modern context. I'm a polytheist and an animist, and would say that my practices follow a 'hearthy' sort of path and much of what I do involves studying and reviving or continuing the cultural practices of this place I now called home.
Much of what I write will focus on what I do as a recon, along with the everyday, meandering ramblings of what I get up to, and reviews of the latest history books I'm reading. I freely admit to and apologise in advance for the occasional smug mummy posts, but I like to think I'm not one of *those* parents...Honest.
